Burning dvd, mpeg 2.....

hi,

I'm trying to export from adobe premiere pro to an mpeg2 (is this the correct file type to use if it is then going to be burnt on a dvd via nero?)

Im using adobe media encoder (i've tried burning straight from premiere, but it has crashed everytime) And i can export as mpeg 2, there is heaps of settings.

But if i want to export it as progressive footage (which is what i want right? because my dvx shoots that) i can only then choose 4:3, there is no progressive 16:9 setting

So just to confirm what i've done. I shoot progressive, letterbox footage. and then did this:

and now after inporting the tiff images back into premiere i wish to burn it to a dvd, that when played on a 4:3 tv, will add black bars and that will look perfect on a widescreen tv. Does this make sense?

oh, god...i didn't type that out very well. hope you can understand, and hopefully someone can help me.

Thankyou very much.

Hi Debaser,
Yes, if you're going to DVD, it needs to be encoded as mpeg2 somewhere along the way.

As for encoder settings, if there's not a preset for what you want, start with one that's close, modify the necessary settings, and save it as a new preset.

I haven't tried the procedure that you reference but when you say 'add black bars' are you talking about what the DVD player adds with you play the widescreen format? You want to maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio on the DVD and depend on the DVD player to handle the TV's aspect ratio.
