I know a lot of people have had problems working with this format.
First off, I don't have a Blu-ray burner yet...holding off till I start filming full HD. For the past year or so I have been filming in "AVCHD-Lite" with my Panasonic ZS7, which is quite good. I wanted to burn these AVCHD files to DVD. Turns out this can be done because I've done it.
I edit my MTS files with Vegas Pro 12 with all the effects, color corrections, text, etc., then render to Sony--AVCHD 1440x1080 (there is no setting for 1280x720, but that doesn't seem to matter). Then I bring the resulting M2TS file iinto DVDA 5.2...but it keeps wanting to recompress down to AVI. What I end up with is not good viewing at all. DVDA properties did not allow for any other option than 720x480. That was a downer.
After much research on Google and various Forums over the past year there seemed to be no solution. However, I recently upgraded my CorelDraw, WordPerfect, etc. to the new X6 series and part of my arrangement included Corel VideoStudio X5, This turned out to be a revelation! When I place the same M2TS file into VideoStudio X5, and send it to Share Tab for the burn process, the Burn options were "DVD--AVCHD--Blue-Ray--BDJ". I selected AVCHD, and I have to tell you the relulting burn to DVD just blew me away. There was very little, if any, resolution loss. It should be noted that playback can only be done on a AVCHD friendly Blue-ray player, or with free viewers like Splash Lite, or VLC on computers that don't have Blue-ray media. You can get about 25-30 minutes on a DVD which is ok by me.
I have to wonder why such a fine programe like DVDA can't seem to replicate this, that is unless I have missed somthing along the way?
