Burning a hd movie in full quality to dvd.

Hi all, i wasn't sure where to post this so please move if need be. Basically, I've just finished a 90 minute wedding film that i shot in full hd, and now want to burn it to dvd but found that in adobe the files are going to be MASSIVE. (Mpeg2 was near 10 gigs!) And h.264 was nearer 20gb! I've burned things before in hd to my taiyo Yuden dvds, which only can hold like 4gbs, but this is the first time I've actually tried a "full movie". When I use to burn full movies before in sd, 4-5gbs was plenty, but now I'm stuck.

What do you guys do when burning big hd movie files? Is there a specific format you use? Or maybe a better brand of dvd? Does everyone just use blu rays perhaps? I want to be able to get the film onto dvd for the couple and still have it in as best quality as possible. All advice is appreciated, thank you!

Ah fair enough, and yeah I have a blu ray player and burner with my laptop. Any good brands you all use? These blu ray blank discs are a fortune! And I think I've accidentally made a few of those avchd dvds already so ill test them in the blu ray player. Thanks again

What's most important though is not what you have - it's what the wedding couple has! What format do they want to receive - regular DVD, data DVD with HD files, or BluRay?

Hi

I can't vouch for BluRay but DVDs and CDs have better and worse brands but what is best depends on your particular burner. Different burner manufacturers optimize their burners for different dyes. So you can look online for reccomended media. Plextor also ships testing software with their burners that let you see the number of errors. I am not sure if they still do or don't include it currently. Personally I also find differences burner to burner. Some of that difference I can attribute to enviromental dust collecting in units. Hope some of this helps.

Best Regards

Thanks for the info guys. So just to definitely clarify, even if i burn 1920 full hd files to a dvd disc, if i still play that disc in any standard dvd player, it won't be proper hd?

It will be proper HD, but it will only play on a computer (using media player or QuickTime, etc). If you put it in a Video-DVD player it won't play, because the Video-DVD specification requires SD files.

Ah thanks again guys, well better check out this blu ray i just authored on encore, my first one - hopefully looks nice! What files do you guys prefer to use when authoring blu rays, is there one with a better quality/reliability? I just used mpeg2 blu ray, but saw i could adobe cs5.5 could also do h.264 files etc, any one THE must for blu ray when authoring in encore?
