Bumper help?

I'm creating some bumpers for a race/car type show and I have an idea, but don't know the easiest way to execute it. I know there's an easy way:

Camera flying close to dirt surface really fast, "looks" up a bit and we see the Logo way in the distance, zooms up to the Logo. Total five seconds.

Kind of like the one's you see where the "camera" is skimming across the water at 200mph, only with dirt instead of water.

ideas?

I think the easiest way would be to actually film it. Take two bright flourescent beach balls and put them on C-stands in the area where you want your logo to be. Then mount a camera on the front of a car and drive really slowly across your dirt surface so you are minimizing bumps. Take your footage into After Effects and speed it up with the timewarp effect, adding motion blur. Track your beach ball reference points and then composite your logo over this.

If you want to do it in After Effects entirely, then you need some high resolution ground photos. I recall seeing a tutorial somewhere where someone created a similar effect all inside After Effects. Check out these tutorials:

I did do something similar a few years ago in AE where I animated the camera over a very large image and revealed different section of that image with text standing vertically, like a map with locations spots, but I didn’t pan up past the image.
To do this in AE you would need to start of with the right images. Go out and take some hi res shots of your dirt, just shoot straight down don't shoot any perspectives that'll be done in AE, you would have to experiment with what distance that you take the photos. Might be best to take a few and stitch them together in Photoshop, this will give you more area for the camera to fly over. The dirt surface/ground would motion blur nice as the camera passes over the top. As the camera pans up you'll need to have another image to cover the distance background scene. Make sure with your camera that you have control over your depth of field this will make the whole thing look more realistic. Your Logo would stand up vertically to the ground/dirt. Kind of hard to explain there has to be a tutorial out there somewhere. (And would probably be totally different to the way I would do it of course) If your not familiar with using the camera and the 3D side of AE then its definitely worth learning, opens up a whole new world to After Effects.
AE would do a nice job of this but would be no match to what you could do in a 3D app.

There’s bound to someone out there that has done something similar.

I would not even use a camera for the movement. Make all your 3-D layers and bring a camera in, but for the ground you might be able to make something cool using fractal noise. Then scale it up real big and keyframe the position so it appears that you are flying , but in reality the ground you created will just be moving underneath. THen you can make your text logo. same idea - keyframe the scale and position parameters. make it appear that we are flying up to it, but you can just make it come to us. This saves you all that camera movement trouble.

Your right Thomas sorry Ryan "Don’t animate the camera" Animate the content instead. I animate cameras in 3D Max, AE cameras don’t quite work the same Unfortunately. Best I don’t give advice when I haven’t slept much the night before.
