Bulbing down an Arrilite 1000w?

I own a kit of 4 Arrilite 1000s, and often it's just way too much light.

According to the Arri web site, this fixture only takes "DXW 1000w R7s" type bulbs.

However, B&H lists the FCB 600w/120v lamp as "This is a lower wattage alternative to the DXW."

Thoughts?

You might want to try renting a few 1k Variac dimmers. Lots of rental houses will throw them in for free when you rent lights. Since you already have lights they may cost 10-20 a day. That way you can control the light with much more accuracy.

I already own a pile of 1k dimmers, but those introduce color shift. I also own scrims, but that's just throwing away light, but with all the same power draw and heat.

I think as long as the bulb has the same socket and the same voltage requirements, you can always use lower wattage in lamps.
The wattage rating on a lamp is the maximum you can use, but less can't hurt (I can see no reason physics-wise how it could cause problems)
