Built in Flash Diffuser

My wife uses Gary Fong's Lightsphere - and has been really happy with the results.
Well recently she saw that he's got a new product out, so figured we'd give it a shot.

The Puffer
It's a really simple little plastic molded diffuser that fits on the hotshoe and diffuses the built in flash. Very simple - but makes a world of difference for those situations where you may not want to take all your gear with you.

Thought I'd pass it along here in case anyone was interested.
At least now we don't have to hold a napkin up to the flash like we used to.
:)

I'll see if I can get her to give me some side by side examples tonight so you can see the difference.

EDITED TO ADD:
I posted the link to the Adorama store because it was the first one I found to be able to show you what the product was.
I've never actually shopped there - and don't have anything against them, or for them.
Just FYI

I think I will make one by myself. :D

Easy enough.

I'm just lazy.
And this thing is more rugged than something I would wind up constructing.
Well, that and it's my wife's camera.... so while I'm totally willing to go out and shoot with DIY stuff hanging off my HVX, I don't think she's as keen on the idea with her Nikon.
:)

Post some pics if you make one.
I'd be interested to see it.

Used my DIY- softener today. Pics will come soon.
I wasn´t so amazed by the results but maybe that´s because I had no before-after-comparison.

Anyways, great idea to soften the flash. Thanks for sharing.

Well ok, here are two pics of the "diffuser".

I used the packaging-material that came with my Playstation2, cut a piece of it and wrapped it around the flash.

I think it´s not the best material to choose. I did some before-after-shots and there was a difference but only a little one which I didn´t find worth posting.
Maybe I will experiment with other materials or just more material in front of the flash will do the job.

Anyway, still a cool idea.

<pt>,

I should have just gone ahead and purchased the unit from Adorama!

After my purchase of a Playstation 2, to get the packaging material, (like your fine example), I realized I could have saved a bunch of money. :)

What I just went out and bought a PS3 thinking it would be upgraded diffusion? WTF?

I hear you can send them back to sony if you´re disapointed with the packaging material.

nice, ill send the packaging material back. And see what they do. Big label on the outside "DEFECTIVE"
