Building a website..?

I am looking to make a website to host some of my footage and advertise my services a little. I've never really made a web page and would like it to be as professional as can be (but again, I have little experience in the process). Does anyone know of any good sites that offer programs/software that turn out a good site. I'm looking for a fairly easy to use page builder that will easily host quicktime files and possible have flash animation. Any suggestions?

You'd have to learn a new program.

Lots of people use Dreamweaver but I don't have the time to learn how to use it.

Dreamweaver's fairly simple to use - it requires SOME basic HTML knowledge. If you really don't have the time, templates are always a fast way to go.

Building a website is like making a movie. If you want it to look professional then you need to be (or hire) a professional. There's no easy solution.

You'll first need to think of a domain name (mysite.com) and then find a webhost (everybody here has their favorites - Bluehost, GoDaddy, 1and1, Hostmonster, etc.). They will host your site/domain for about $6/mo.

The next part is the hard part; building the site. As far as I know there is no "software" that will build it for you or, at least, give professional looking results. But Joomla and Wordpress are a good starting point. Also, if you're a Mac user, their website building kit might suit your needs.

Dreamweaver will "help" you create your site but you'll still need to know what looks good and what doesn't (same as making movies). There are a lot of tutorials online for Dreamweaver.

The best thing to do is just jump in and learn how to swim. It's fun and much more rewarding than buying an pre-packaged website.

Good luck!

If you are on a Mac, iWeb is really easy. I am currently using RapidWeaver but it frustrates me at times because I am used to the ease of iWeb. There are always trade offs.
