Hi everyone!

Let me introduce myself first. My name is Jerome and I am a graphic design student at Cal State Fullerton. I've fallen in love with motion graphics and 3d and I want to practice this more because it looks a lot of fun =)

Anyways, I am trying to do my research to build a new machine for my motion graphics work because I feel my Macbook Pro wont be powerful enough to handle it (render times, 3d elements, ram previews). I can't spend TOO much on the most highend equipment like nVidia quadro cards and such, but I do want some powerful equipments within reason.

Here is what I currently have in my newegg shopping cart for "Necessary" components:

Intel 2.8 Ghz Core 2 Quad
evga nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX 512RAM
8 gigs of ram
640GB HD

Would this set up be good for an after effects and 3D machine? I am open to suggestions for video cards and such if the one I listed isn't ideal for what I want to do.

Also, I'm looking to get a 24" monitor, but I'm having trouble finding out. I keep hearing that it's best to go with something better than those standard TN panels that you can buy for like 200 bucks. I was thinking of picking up the HP 24" panel which is an IPS panel I guess, but does this stuff really matter when doing this kind of work?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing your responses!

The GTX is more of a gamer card than a workstation card from what I understand. I'll let other people chime in on details.

Everything else looks fine. Go with the fastest RAM you can afford, that's one of the most important things that every program will want to hog up. And if you could buy me a new system while you're already on the site, that would be great.
