Building a desk, need dimension suggestions

I am soon going to start building a new edit console desk. I want to make it with a top monitor platform with enough space for 2 19'' CRT monitors, a 14'' production monitor, and 2 pro audio monitors. I am looking at making it 5.5- 6 feet total width, with the monitor platform being 20'' deep at the center, and expanding to 28'' deep at the ends, in a curve. The total depth of the desk is going to be 3.5 feet, and the height will be 2.5 feet. Has anyone ever made their own desk before? Do these dimensions seem reasonable? Overkill? Underkill? any suggestions would be great, thanks!
