Build Quality?

Build quality

Got the Camera this past weekend. Loving it so far --this camera does everything I want and is in my budget. I’m new to Panasonic (and this forum site) but so far I only have one issue:

The build quality of the camera feels a little cheap – It’s all plastic (which keeps it light) and tends to feel like a toy in my hand. When my camera is off you can hear the internal lens cover rocking around --- does anyone else experience this? Also my tripod plate looks worn in (or tested by the factory). Is this standard Panasonic? Any thoughts on the build quality?

Ordered from B&H – very fast shipping.

The cameras are all metal some type of magnesium alloy. there is some plastic on them but its just a cover over the metal internal skeleton. In the HPX section Spec-Comm took a HPX170 apart and you can see the all metal casing.

the noise you hear is the OIS its a common noise with all the Panasonics.

I have/had those very same thoughts.
Coming from Sony cameras it seemed a little "light" and my light shoe looked like it had been used.

I thought back to my 35mm days when I had a Canon EOS A2 which had a polycarbonat body but it was a tank and I tend not to abuse my equipment so I think I'm covered for many years to come.

Now if I did guerrilla style filmmaking I might have some concerns...

Thanks for responding. The OIS device is what's moving around inside? I just want to make sure everything is 100%. Any thoughts on the tripod plate?

There's nothing wrong with the plate --- I just looks like something has screwed into it pretty hard. Not damaging but very noticeable rings around the screw hole. My real concern was the rocking noise.

maybe thats where it held by the machines in the factory when it is assembled???
my dvx ois beat a merry tune while turned off...

Your DVX makes a similar noise when you rock the camera back and forth??? (almost like something is loose)

cool. thanks everyone for posting. I was just concerned that something was jarred during shipping --- Love the camera ... and im loving this forum.

hummm, be cautious, it looks like if you hear the clunk more than five times a day it sets up a bomb inside and the camera goes off..........So if you hear it run run run!!!!!
