Build for media storage, cache, and backup

Hi, I've been shooting on BMCC and sometimes BMPCC in RAW and ProRes. My current build is:

  • Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
  • ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8Z68-V PRO GEN3 (LGA1155)
  • 1535MB GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
  • 16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)
  • 240 GB SanDisk Extreme for OS
  • random assortment of HDDs

But I need a good storage update! I have a big tower with room for at least 4x 3.5" drives. I will be using Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and Photoshop mostly on Windows 7.

My plan is:
  • keep the 240 GB SanDisk Extreme for OS and Apps
  • 2x 4TB WD Black HDDs in Raid 0 for Media
  • 240 GB of whatever SSD is on sale for Cache
  • 3x WD 4TB Green HDDs in a separate NAS for backup

Is the cache sufficient? Any suggestion for anything else?

I use a 24TB 8 drive external RAID that I think cost around $3k when I put it together around a year or more ago.

Areca 1882x PCIe controller card, Sans Digtial 8 drive SAS enclosure, 9 3TB Seagate Barracuda drives (one is sitting on the self in its sealed package waiting for a drive in the enclosure to fail), 2 SAS cables from the card to the enclosure.

If you wanted to build a similar array now, you could use 4TB drives for the same price or less. I see that Seagate and Hitachi are now selling 6TB drives, but the price on each is drive is running between $300-$750.
