Build a cheap arrihead?

Someone with good mechanical skills should build a low cost geared tripod head with hand wheels like the Arrihead so that we shmose can get ultra-smooth tilts and pans like the pros do. A good fluid head tripod can go a long way but a geared head is the best you can get. Someone should build a DV version and sell it at an affordable price specifically marketed for us DV filmmakers. I'd do it but I lack the skills.

I lack the tools and the patience. The skills are probably there.

But, instead, I'll just browse the junkyards for lathe parts and such. Plenty of cranks and gears and positioning items available.

Heck, maybe even go out and buy new parts so I wouldn't have to clean the rust off.

Yep. That project is right behind the dolly, crane, mattebox, stabilizer arm, . . .
