Browser frame rate issue..HELP!

I just started using FCP4 a few weeks ago, so forgive me  but I noticed that even though I used the advanced pull down rate, my footage stills shows up as 29.97 in the browswer window. Is this normal? Also I selected the timeline to be 23:98 but how do tell if it's in effect?

     Thank you,

      (wishing iMovie 4 had 24p ;) Rane

Re: Browser frame rate issue..HELP!

Well, I'll start with the easy one first ;)

To check what frame rate your timeline is at, right click (or hold Control and click if you're using a one button mouse) on it up in your Browser window and choose Item Properties. There should be a property called Vid Rate which will either be 29.97 if it hasn't been changed or 23.98 if you did successfully change it.

As for your footage, are you sure that you shot it in 24pA? Clips that have been shot in 24pA and had pulldown removed should show up correctly as having a 23.98 frame rate.

First, you can try removing the pulldown by clicking on the clip and selecting Remove Advanced Pulldown from the Tools menu. If for some reason the clip is fine but the pulldown just didn't get removed on importing, that should take care of it.

However, if that doesn't work and if it really is 24pA, FCP can get confused if there are any timecode breaks which can occur if the camera loses power or if you change modes without stopping the recording.

What I've found easiest to do in those cases is to recapture the clip that's giving me problems using Capture Now, making sure to stop capturing before the clip actually ends.

Post a bit more information with how you shot and captured the clips and what you've tried so far and maybe somebody can give you more advice to get you going.
