Broken timecode and capturing...

I have a tape that I am wanting to capture on FCP which someone else made. However, they completely messed up the timecode so there are gaps where the numbers restart. Is there anything I can do that will go through the tape and change the numbers without changing what was videotaped? Or, is there a way FCP can capture it without having a hissie fit every time the timecode is broken (and then redo the timecode)?

Thanks! :D

FCP4 and better can capture over gaps. If the TC runs all over the place, use the "capture now" feature and just dump the attempts to capture in batch.

I would get a second camera or deck, and a 4-4 pin firewire cable, and clone the tape with brand new timecode. At least you will be able to re-capture if you ever have a hard drive crash or something.

FCP4 can do this without breaking a sweat... set your preferences to make a new clip each time.

Where do I go to set the preferences for capturing? Is it where the preferences for the other general stuff or is it another place?

Re: Broken timecode and capturing...

I found it. It is in File, preferences, and then on that first page of stuff. Thanks!
