Broken SonyMDR7506 headphone plug

Had a nephew break off the tip of the mini-plug (jack) of my Sony MDR 7506 headphones. Anybody know if you can replace this or repair it without spending more than it would cost to get a new pair of phones??

thanks!

Something about the wire they use for those headphones. Almost impossible to re-solder a new connector.

The fix is quite inexpensive: cut the cord near the existing (broken) 1/8" jack, and install a new plug.

Before throwing out the old plug, use a circuit tester to find out which wires are connected to which parts of the plug (tip, ring sleeve). Then, carefully strip the wires in the cut cable and solder them onto the new plug. The cables on 7506's can be trickey to work with, because they're so heavily reinforced, so take your time.

I usually just use standard 1/4" or 1/8" stereo plugs for this sort of thing, since the Sony-style threaded plugs are rather expensive to replace. Good non-threaded plugs, on the other hand, can be had for 75 cents a piece.
