Broken Sennheiser G2 Lav. Mic....

Hey guys:

During a shoot, my actor broke my Sennheiser G2 Lav. Mic. The cord was severed from the 1/8 (inch) input. I was wondering if this has happened to you guys and see if you guys got it repaired or just ordered a new one. Thanks. Your input will help me a lot.

If it's the standard Sennheiser mic or something else in roughly the same price range... my company has found it's not worth our time to try and repair stuff like that (even if it is repairable)--and that's even considering that we have our own service/install techs who can work on them, let alone what it would cost to send them off and have somebody else work on them. If you've got a higher quality mic than that, the numbers might work out different, though...

If it's right at the jack plug, then buy a replacement screw-lock mini-jack and solder it on yourself.

Otherwise, it's probably cheaper to buy a new one.

If you use it a lot, it may be worth upgrading to the MKE 2-ew. Much better quality and has a very tough steel cable (I have never known this to break).

I picked up a cheap soldering iron and solder and youtubed some basic soldering tutorials. It really is quite basic to fix this kind of stuff. I used it to solder a lockable minijack to a couple mke-2s i bought real cheap of ebay and with a little trial and error of figuring which wire goes where, it works flawlessly. I fixed an old xlr cable i had lying around so it comes in useful for other stuff.

That is cool!

The me2 (not to be confused with the very good MKE2) mic that comes with the g2 system is not a good mic at all and should be replaced anyway.... so repair?? not so much
