Broadcast Monitors - will a good computer display do?

hello, as someone looking to make a short film soon, could anyone tell me about broadcast monitors? I've been looking at some really nice looking sets here: b&h

While they will show things well with good clarity and brightness, I'm guessing the real reason for 'broadcast' monitors is mainly color? So my question is this: is it worth getting on of these, or would you be as well off with a good pc monitor?
thankyou!

If your working in OS X you will need a broadcast monitor as all of their applications don't accurately display gamma corrected video in the software.

If you're working with Premiere Pro CS5 on Windows, any monitor calibrated to the sRGB standard will get you by with pretty good accuracy.

After effects will allow you to simulate color management, but very few platform+software packages have good color management. For example Premiere Pro assumes you have an sRGB monitor. If you have anything but that, you will be looking at the wrong colors in the NLE.

Keep in mind that a brodcast monitor still has to be calibrated, or your still looking at the wrong image. You'll need a colorimetor and some time with test patterns to get the monitor calibrated.
