Britek Switchable 1K?

Hey Jarred,

Several weeks ago you mentioned that Rostronics were going to get a version of the Britek 1K with two 500w lamps and switchable between one or both. What's up with that? Any news?

Didn't you also mention that there might be a 36x36 box available with that, or am I only dreaming?

They actually have them in stock, I'll get my pair Wednesday.

Essentially they are lights that have two bulbs in them, and you can either turn on one (500w) or both (1k). They differ from the 500/1.2k kits in that they aren't focusable.

Lucky for me, I've never used a lighting kit before so I have absolutely no clue what that means so chances are I won't miss it.

Britek Switchable 1ks

This site is deadly, I've been reading it obsessively, so it gives me the ability to sound like I have a clue but without any of the nagging actual 'knowledge' that typically comes with experience. Now I can hold forth on anything and seem quasi informed.

Watch:

"You know, that you might want to go with the 1ks, in case you ever need to shoot as daylight (the 1ks are tungsten), for which you'll need CTB Gels, the problem is that those will cost you two steps, and each step is half the power, so essentially you'll go from 1000watts to 250, as daylight."

I have no clue what the hell I just said. I mean I sort of do, but I didn't four or five days ago. I wouldn't know a CTB gel light from a hamster if not for the teeth. The only wattage I've ever seen on a light bulb was like 150 for my bedroom lamp. I went from complete ignorance to having my fingers crossed for the Dayphoto HMIs. I don't have the slightest clue what those are, but I'm secretly hoping that 650 people want them so they kick back into production. They cost 1/4th the price of the next decent HMIs, whatever that means. Did you know that? I didn't. Now I know, at the cost of some crucial bit of information I probably could've used, like my social security number or something. C'est la vie.

I just watch and try to let this nonsense sink in by way of osmosis so that I can make decent purchasing decisions, It's a new way of doing it for me. I used to use a Ouija board when I bought new things, but this works much better as I don't keep asking people to sell me "mgrhrhks" and "efg3s". It does take a little longer though, and getting people to crowd around my powerbook at a party is challenging at best.

Phil, venting.

Re: Britek Switchable 1K?

I'll tell you what you just said, step by step, if you want, but you said you sorta knew what it meant and I don't want to be condescending. People here were (mostly) very kind to me when I first arrived with a thirst for knowledge.

I will say this though, maybe you should put your credit card away until you know for sure that HMI's are what you need for what you want to do.

I will also say that you are a very funny dude. ;D

Re: Britek Switchable 1K?

Phil, that's all I did to figure out what's what, read and osmosize and read some more and osmosize, then test test test... ;D
