Hey Jarred,

What's your current light kit looking like, more specifically the fluoro side? I'm trying to reduce my dependency on the hot lights as well and have found for interiors that I can do quite a lot with existing practicals, china lamps (I have about 8 different sizes and colors), and my two dimmers, but I don't really have anything in the fluoro department except a home depot 2x24 with some 20w Philips 5000k 92 CRI (Natural Sunshine).

What are you doing for hard light or big light, do you have any HMI's in your kit?
 
ok I think I'm set on lights, now I was wondering what are some decent stands for a good price? thanks...sorry about asking so many questions its just that lighting equipment is what i know least about. thanks

Cool slinks-- let us know how it all turns out with the lights-- what you decided on... what you think of it when you get it.

If you want cheap C-stands, check e-bay for auctions from the seller Amvona.com. They sell them for much less than anyone else out there, and a lot of people say they're totally solid. I have two on the way, so in a few days I could tell you more about their quality.

As for cheaper/lighter less-heavy-duty-then-c-stands I don't know. I have some lowel stands, they're junky. I've heard bad things about the Amvona non-c-stands. But I just don't know what the budget-answer is there.

ok...just to update my progress if anyone is interested. I bought 3 britek lights from rostronics.com . 1 g-300, 1 gy-650, and a RS-1000, all of these lights have barndoors and focus control and in the desciption state that they are all "the new line of equipment from Britek". I got 2 xtra bulbs for each light and softboxes for the 650 and 1000 and 1 b/w umbrella. came out to about 644 including shipping and the dvxuser discount.

I took a risk on light stands.

I went to amvona on Ebay and won 3 auctions for 3 different dynatran stands for $50 and with shipping it came out to about $90 for everything. which I think is quite a steal but we will see how good these stands are when they arrive. I bid on a few of those C-stands but each one always passed the limit of what i could afford so I went for the non c-stands. If they end up crappy at least i paid way less then what it retailed for and anyways, they are just stands that hold lights. I would bet if im careful enough and use weights or sandbags it wont be a problem.

I also will be purchasing 1 or 2 of matt's lights soon as well. Those flouros just have a lot going for them.

When I get my lights and stands I'll do a lil test run and post it if anyone is interested.


***update: nice Britek lights were waiting for me when I got home. A few scratches here and there and not everything had boxing but so far everything looks fine. The lights seems to be built pretty well. Better than i thought, so far I am very pleased. Those lights came pretty fast in the mail! I can't wait for my stands I won on ebay!
