Hi,

I have a Britek GY-300/barn/softbox, and a Britek GY-650/barn/softbox winging its way to Australia. However I don' t have any stands yet and planning on picking up some.

But how heavy are these lights with softboxes on? I am thinking they are less than 5Kg??

Anyone got any ideas?

Robert

Hi there:

I have the 1500W kit with two GY650's and a 250 spot. It came with standard 7ft (2.1m) stands. They were ok, but kinda flimsy at full extention. There is a Britek 8 foot (2.4m) eavy duty stand. It is not really "heavy duty" but it is much more stable, especailly at the highest extention. By the way, the softboxes are not that heavy. Where did you purchase from? If ordering from the U.S., you might try Rostronics......probably heavy shipping charge, but good service.

Hey Beaker,

I actually ordered my lights from Tom @ Rostronics. I live in Australia so we were trying to make it as economical as possible so decided to get the stands here, and get the lights from Tom.

So while the lights are winging there way I wanted to pick up some stands just dont know how heavy the beasts will be...... any guesses?

my 8 footers in a provided bag are 59K if I am not mistaken. I think they cost around $30 US each, but I would check Rostronics page...BTW, what were the shipping costs to Australia?

Beaker not sure of the exact cost of the postage as I just asked Tom to bundle a few things together and give me a cost to get it to Australia. But it definately is cheaper than buying lights locally!

I also found out that the weight of the lights are between 4 and 6 pounds, and softboxes are about 3 pounds...

Hi Robert,

I'm just about to order some lights from Tom as well, prices here are way off the scale!!

The only thing I'm trying to track down our some globes (bulbs) for them as Tom said I need to put 240V ones in them.

Had a look on the videoguys site (www.videoguys.com.au) and they had some on there, but not really sure if they are compatible.

Any suggestions?

Where are you planning on getting the stands from? Might look into that myself as it could be a good way to keep the shipping costs down.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

GDay Alex,

Good to see the writing of another countryman. Coming from the UK, and spent a bit of time in the US, I just can't believe the costs of film av equipment here in Australia.

Anyway, don't forget when buying from Tom to get him to ship it by USPS. It's a lot cheaper than the UPS that is offered by the site.

With regards to globes. The GY-650 takes http://www.videoguys.com.au/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=498. I haven't found a cheaper place than videoguys for this globe. I only got the information for the G-300 globe last week. I know you can buy the globe from BH, but I haven't tried any ozzy places. I will do tomorrow though. A good guy who is helpful with globes is Daniel at www.lightingpro.com.au. Not bought anything from him yet, but he is helpful and will find globes for you.

For stands, I did look in OZ but couldnt find anything that is decent and cheap. So I am getting the following from BH

1*Impact air-cushioned heavy duty 9'5"
1*Impact air-cushioned 8'

Total price including shipping to oz comes to $141USD or $187AUD. $93AUD per stand wasn't bad I thought. I couldn't find anything better value for money. I also looked at C-Stands but they are just as cheap here in Oz (www.johnbarry.com.au) as it is to get it shipped from US. Actually all manfrotto/bogen stuff in OZ is comparable to the prices on BH once you also include shipping. John Barry is the manfrotto disty here in OZ, and you can check out there price list on www.manfrotto.com.au. It's a PDF doco..

Hope that helps........

Robert, thanks heaps for your feedback on shipping costs to Australia and other links and prices etc. It's a shame there's no Britek distributor here in Oz. Let us know your feedback on the lights when they arrive and you get to test them out.
