Britek GY-650 & 220-240AC

Hi,

I am looking at maybe getting the Britek GY-650 http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-600W. However I live in the land of down-under Australia where we have 220-240AC :)

I did look at voltage converters, but realistically I dont want to go down that route due to the wattage these lights take.

So can someone answer the following for me :

1. What type of lamps does the GY-650 take? And are these standard type's of lamps or proprietary to Britek?
2. Can I get 650W 220/240 lamps for GY-650, and if so can someone point me to a place?

Thanks in advance

Robert

Cheer Horse. But where can I find 220/240V lamps for the GY-650???

I had a look at the rostronics website and unless I am missing something they are all 110V :(

What type of lamps (mode/spec) am I looking for?

They do make life down under hard :)

Cheers

Robert

Damn, I don't know. This is where your countrymen should chime in an point you in the right direction. Let's hope anyway.

I am hoping.......... :)

Come on where are my fellow Australian friends to help me out here?

If someone could at least tell me the bulb type I could then try and find a place that sells em :)

Thanks Frank :) Nice to here some voices from another ozzy....

I will give videoguys a call to see what they can come up with. Would be helpful if I had a lamp no., or model tho.

Is there someone out there who could look on there GY-650 to see what 220-240V rated bulbs it supports... please. :)

Raytracer thanks for helping us out there :) Seems those bulbs aren't to difficult to get hold of here in oz.

Also just in case anyone is considering getting the Britek RS-1000 here is the bulb information for 220/240

RS-1000 1000W light is a JPD 240V 1000W 4.2 AMPS

Does anyone have any suggestions other than Tom @ Rostronics for Britek's? I think Tom is great and prices are superb, but on his site he only ships via UPS which costs a bomb to Australia. For example the cost of an order of $430.00 comes with postage costing $380.00. I buy other equipment from the US and try to get it shipped via USPS which is normally a lot cheaper. So wondering if there is anyone else out there who people recommend that sells the Britek equipment?

Thank's Frank for the pointer, and thanks to everyone at DVXUser. I am pretty amazed and grateful for the help you guys have given me :) Let's just hope I can get the postage down to a level where my other half is happy.

At least he can get stuff sent, even if it costs an arm and a leg. I have to get things sent via US mail, unless I want to drive some and pick the stuff up at the customs warehouse.

Ticks me off that some places won't mail things, but insist on using UPS/FedEx. (And let's not get into the whole "can't ship to anywhere but the credit card billing address" thing).

Robert,

You might give Tom a call and see if there's anything he can do as far as alternate shipping. I've spoken to him several times, and he's a great guy.

Also, you're actually much closer to the source of these things than we are. You might try and navigate Britek's main site: http://www.britek-light.com.tw/i000/open.php and see if you can find a distributor down under. Heck, you might even be able to get the elusive Britek HMI lights down there.

By the way, since you're south of the equator do your cables coil up in the opposite direction from ours? Does Coriolis force affect electrons? Curious minds want to know...

Horsey.. the wife is always the stumbling block to my grand ideas.... I think tho I have managed her expectations, and explained the benefits of what a lighting kit will give her, and of course me..... :)

Raytracer; I tried going to the britek tawain site and navigating but didnt trawl up much really :( But on the positive note I am speaking with couple of US suppliers to see what I can sort out.

For all those of us who live outside the USA I will let you know what I find out :)

On a slightly different note..... This will be my first lighting kti! What I am thinking of getting is :

2*GY-650's w/ barn doors/manual focus and 24x24 softboxes
1* G-300 w/barn doors

Thing is though I can't decide on what power lamps to get. ie...

should I get 1*GY-650, 1*RS-1000, 1*G-300. or 2*GY-650, 1*RS-100, or ??

My thought is if I get higher wattage lamps I can just use ND, or gels to bring them down? What are people's thoughts for a starter kit? I will be using the kit to shoot indie films, and just want something that is going to be pretty universal.
