Britek 1000 watt light problem.

Hey speaking of briteks, I need to get another 650w bulb. My lights have been working great and i finally blew a bulb after about 1 year and a half of use I guessing, maybe less. Where can I get the part numbers online?

I just bought 1/2 dozen of these for my 650's. If it is a GY9.5 (2-Pin Prefocus) mount, you can get them at bulbconnection.com. They ran me 5.35$ each and I bought the Ushio based on recomendations here. The part # is 1000251 DYS 120v-600WC. Bulbconnection I believe I first read about from horsefilms.

No prob. I haven't had any problem after doing that either. Those metal 'strips' with the nipples that hold the bulb must really get affected by the heat, or just that the heat is so extreme.

Guess this is a bit of an older thread, but it's nice to hear of folks esperienceing, and fixing, problems I am having. I got 3 Briteck 1k's for a shoot and one kept failing after about 15 minutes...after changing out the lamp head a few times and it miraculously working again when I would test it later, only to burn out again, I tried it agin. Still flipped off after about 15 minutes. I decided to try running the focus knob up and back a few times and notceda crackling sound...after working the focus knob for a minute, the noise went away and the light stayed on. I initially thought it might be a badly solered wire or smething, but it probably is the connection of the strap to the bulb. Once I return home form the shoot, I am going to pull apart my lights and tighten all the connection straps.

Other than that, I like the lights. I know they are cheap, but I like the fact that the plastic housing says cool enough to the touch to use without gloves. I know I will have to replace them in about a year or so with moderat eto heavy use, but our lighting budget just for this project paid for the whole set. It was basically rent a set of Arri's or by a set of Briteks. As long as they lasted the durration of the shoot, they paid for themselves!

yeah thats waht my problem was...those metal 'straps' that hold the bulb inplace are what complets the circuit, so when they get hot they seem to exand or loosen juuuust a bit and sometimes can break the connections... just bend them in a bit and hopefully that fixes it.

I like mine too.

I had the same problem a while ago and simply queezed the two metal strips with my fingers that hold the pins of the bulbs. That fixed the problem. They simply expand during the heat, that's all.
