Bringing Progressive and Interlaced footage on the same timeline

Hello,

I recently shot an event with two different cameras. My Panasonic AG AC130 was shooting in 1080p30 while my secondary cam(a consumer level cam not capable of shooting progressive) was shooting at 1080i30.

Can I bring these both on the timeline and edit from there or do I need to take an additional step(like deinterlacing)? I'm exporting for web so I'm not sure I need to but any help would be great!

Thank you

Tyler

There's no such thing as 1080i30. If it's a consumer cam which shoots no progressive, then it's 60i.

You can edit both on a 1080/60i timeline with no problems.

As for deinterlacing, that's up to you. What do you want it to look like? Do you want it all to look (more or less) the same?

Yes, I would like the footage to look as consistent as possible as I will be cutting back and forth between the cameras. Do I need to deinterlace if I'm exporting to web?

Do I need to alter the project settings to reflect 60i or can I just use the default template?

Just use a 60i timeline.

If you like, you can change the field order to "None (progressive scan)."

Make sure the deinterlace method is "Interpolate fields."

When you render, render as 29.97, progressive. Vegas will do the deinterlacing for you on the render. You don't have to do it before you edit.
