Bringing DVX through the airport

Anybody had experience with this yet? Is it unsafe to put the camera or tapes or any other random accessories through the xray machine? Going to NY this Friday and I'd like to shoot a scene in the city... thanks.

Re: Bringing DVX through the airport

It's no problem at all, in fact, you have to send your camera through the xray machine, they won't let you on otherwise. As far as tape media goes, x-rays don't effect that either, so no worries.

Re: Bringing DVX through the airport

I flew to Florida back in April with no problems. I was told to not put your tapes through the machine though bring them on the plane with you. I however forgot about 1 tape that I left in the case with the camera. The tape is not ruined. I just shot on that tape over the weekend actually.

I'd just make sure you're right there when they handle it.. TSA tends to not care how they treat your equipment.

I had to fly to a friend's wedding a few weeks ago and I bought my camera along. Only thing of note was that I had to take my camera out of my bag the same way they have been screening laptops. I had a whole lot of expensive equipment out in the open... not too cool.

Oh another thing is to NOT put a lock on your case or they will cut it off. I actually locked my case once I boarded the plane.

That started in June. Now they want you to put the tape in the gray trays as well. The trick is trying to watch the stuff until it goes in and yet get to the other side in time because when the camera comes out the other end the roller ramp is inclined... be there to catch it.

I'd buy some of the new TSA approved locks (Sharper Image has them). They are a combination lock that also has a key slot that only the TSA has keys to. Yes they can still open it, but most thefts take place in the baggage area by airport employees and they don't have the keys to these. I've used them on three flights so far... no issues.

Re: Bringing DVX through the airport

anyone have any experiences with foreign airlines and their feelings on locks?

Re: Bringing DVX through the airport

Those TSA locks (also available at Brookstone) do work well. If you must check in your cam and gear, best way to go.

Question, has anyone traveled with their DVrig? Any suggestions on how to pack it?
