brightening footage in Premiere...

I shot some footage the other day that I'm now editing...it was a dark space; I had the gain up and I was wide open, but it's still a bit dark. I'm using the brightness/contrast setting in Premiere Pro 2.0 but am at the point where I'm really starting to compromise picture quality if I go higher.

Any other settings I could try? I also have After Effects but don't know it well.
Thanks!

what you could do is up the brightness more then apply a noise reduction filter, which again, will dramatically worsen the sharpness of the footage, but will reduce some of the grain.

Not sure if the effect is in PPro, but I know for sure it's in After Effects. Look for the Levels effect, it's a more precise version of Brightness and Contrast, and if you want to get really technical, look for Curves, it's a more precise version of Levels.

woops, i believe levels is slightly more precise than curves based on the fact that curves requires a drag of the mouse, where as the levels can be manipulated on a numeric level as well as a click and drag. With the curves there is a bit of guess game going on.
