Brevis35+Fx1 run&gun footage

Here you go, guys. I shot this as run and gun as it gets in 15 minutes (thank my sister, who's on the video, for her pacience). The shutter was always between 50 and 60, the on camera ND filter was on, and the lenses were a 18-28mm, 28mm, 55mm, 85mm, 70-205mm.

The compression it too heavy (divx) but I could not find any other compressor that would allow a 1 minute HD file to have only 40mb. This was my first test with the Brevis and I'm still sure I have to learn all the tips & tricks to make it shine. One thing that I notice instantly was that the latitude doesn't increase as much as other "big league" adapters...which is of the most crucial importance for me adapterwise. But I guess this is a matter of personal taste.

Now where's Angrius? All things considered, that's not bad for your first 15 minutes with the adapter..particularly with the lense collection you used on this:) Looking forward to your next production Rafael.

Oh, one very important thing that I forgot to mention was that after having used the letus35 I'm blown away with the light loss on the Brevis35. It apears to be almost none! Also I didn't get any of the CA, barrel distortion, grain, focus issues, soft image of the letus. I'm dying to find some time to test the Brevis35 unders ideal controled cirumstances. And I'm dying for Dennis to make the new difuser available to the rest of the gang. The initial tests with the new difuser are truly beautiful.

I could see the gg, so it wasn't zoomed in enough, or like teething problems with all these adapters when they are new, the achromats are never strong enough when it comes to the fx1s. With the fx1s you need a good macro. But the only things that put me off was the edges of the frame, the edges of the frame(vibrating gg) and the softness of the image.

Try putting up your nikon to f4 and your fx1 to f4 as well and see what happens.

Kas, that was my bad. I didn't zoom in enough. The achromat Dennis is selling is top notch. I had an asian macro and it was a total crap fest. I'll try the F4 test next time I test the brevis.

I think the problem is that many camera LCD's don't show the full overscan area. So footage that would be fine output to DVD, shows GG edges. I find you need to zoom past what looks OK on the camera LCD. As Rawf has alluded, the 72mm achromat has plenty of room for further zoom in, particularly on the FX1. Rawf, you may have already come close to F4 as I'm guessing your 70-200 is an f 3.5 ?

A 35mm adapter that can be used run n gun is worth its price in gold, if you ask me. Great job on the portability.

I'm going to do a quick color correction and post the new version in here. Anyone know another codec/compressor that will allow me to keep this file around 50mb without too much image degradation? I feel that the divx I posted is not the best option for footage hd evaluation.

If you have a PC, windows media encoder at half frame size, and 5000kbps will do the trick. Its MPEG4 compression is very good, and it's a free download.

I have updated the site with a color corrected version (which I preffer) just to see how a new look would work.

Rafael, the divx compression worked out extraordinarily well on that latest clip. I'm a bit stunned actually with respect to how great that looks full screen. I've got a 17mm lens incoming and your clip has me stoked to do some shooting with it.
