Brevis TROUBLE

So I was filming a scene at the beach today.

And I noticed the ground glass was visible in the monitor. So i checked that the brevis was on and it was. So i have no idea what went wrong. The footage you could see it more visible on some shots then others. So I am freaking out about this. What can be wrong? I havent had this problem before.

any help will be appreciated

Barry are you trying out the Extreme yet?
The Extreme is the best adapter on the market, in build quality, image quality, and in that it's right-side-up. We used the Extreme on our Hallows Fest film "Little Mouth To Feed"; you can see it by going to the dvxfest.com site and playing it.

Try what I just said and see if it gives you satisfactory results.

This grain-in-the-sky issue was a major problem for me with the L35FE until I found that the Mini35 does it too, so I quit spazzing over it. Then Letus fixed it up very much with the Extreme, so maybe Dennis can do something based on a different ground glass or something with the Brevis?

sorry barry

i posted that last question before i knew you had already responded. Thanks for the help. I am going to ask Dennis to see if he has a solution.

P, there's a number of factors that may cause this. Definitely check out the post in our owner's forum on oscillation tuning for a start. Using a very high shutter, combined with stopping down the taking lens is a recipe for grain showing up with any adapter, spinner or oscillator. Static grain is not a complaint (and never has been) with CF1Le, CF1L, or CF1. Images are free of static grain providing the basic rules (Barry mentioned them) are followed.

Barry, as for your comment on the adapter, I think you'll be quite pleased with the Brevis with the flip module in terms of your desire for an upright work flow, market leading light efficiency, sharpness, and versatility. I'll sneak in a congratulations to the 2nd place winner, "Andoguru" of the Hallows fest that will be taking recept of his Brevis HD bundle this week :-)

I know on one of the earlier versions of the Brevis I shot on (I know this isn't a reoccuring issue), there was a short in the vibrating mechanism of the ground glass, meaning the unit appeared to be on, but the glass didn't vibrate - not sure if the guy I rented from has fixed it himself or sent it back to Brevis -

just a thought

ya, i did a shoot on the weekend. My friend had the same problem. Every now and then it wouldnt actually vibrate when turned on. Great adapter though.

Pimp, check your pmail :-) Cheno, hopefully he's sent it back....any problem with a Brevis can be resolved in as quickly as 18 hours thanks to our friends at Fedex. Our response time on phone and email has also improved to the live or near live response level during business hours with the addition of a dedicated customer relations person to our staff. Hubert's had 20 years in the film industry and speaks four languages :-)

Dennis,

I'll have him contact you -

PIMP,
If your having a problem like this, you need to provide more details,
What speed was the camera going, what lens, what f stops etc. Otherwise its hard to evaluate what the problem was. Perhaps the motor was not on or perhaps you saw static grain because you had too high an f stop on your 35mm lens.

Barry,
Have you personally compared all 4 major adapters against one another?
If not I would recommend being very careful saying unequivocally that the Extreme , or any one of these is clearly the best of these adapters on the market.
I have at this point owned all 4 and am curently comparing the letus extreme against an an SGPro Rev 2 and a Brevis.
I will post my results when I'm finished but preliminary findings are no clear winner. All have pros and cons. The Letus is a very nice unit and I LOVE the flip more than I expected, but in my testing (HVX only) it is significantly slower than a Brevis by at least a stop. I didn't expect this from everything I read. Don't ask me for exact numbers because I haven't done careful enough tests yet.
My very premature conclusions are that the SGPro has the best Bokeh followed by the Letus and then the Brevis, but they may be in opposite order with respect to speed in low light. This is exactly what I would expect from the relationship bewteen DOF and speed of the GG.
There are other pros and Cons - Letus well built but heavy. SG Pro is a spinner which is an advantage in general but makes it heavier than a Brevis anyway.
SG Pro and and the Brevis both have reliable methods for adjusting lens collimation, which the Letus seems to have missed. I'm sure Hien & company will quickly come up with some kind of fix for that, but its a pain to set 35mm lens back focus and I wouldn't want to have to switch between different lens mounts in the field.
With Brevis and SGPro ready to release flip units very soon, I'd say its an open horse race and they all make fine units. All of these guys have done us a big favor . They work their butts off trying to improve these units and and we owe them all a big thank you. Maybe they'll have a relay system for 2/3" available soon as well.

That is the reason that I've not ordered an extra lens mount yet for my Extreme, I'm not confidence that I am able to make sure that I'll be able to set the mount parallel to the G.G

I hope Hein will fix this before I get mine . Which that I had highlighted earlier , Which some might find that I'm complaining again.

I think Barry meant that the Letus is good for all the adapters that he used that flips the right side up. As he has yet to try the Brevis with the flip unit, Which Dennis has promised to send it to him for a review with the whole set of CF and rails . I'm still waiting for that to happen. Which was supposed to happen during OCT or NOV ?

I guess it all comes down to a matter of taste.I've owned the red rock m2,the
sg pro rv3 and disliked the m2 for the soft edges and set up problems it gave me.I then experimented with the sgpro which was a decent adapter, but neither of these adapters have wowed me in terms of light loss and sharpness as my new letus ex.I haven't used the brevis but for my camera the canon a1 I've heard the letus ex to do a better job then the brevis for this particular camera.

reem12, Just a quick question for you.

What is the zoom range that you are using with the XHA1 to get full image on the G.G with out vignetting on the Extreme . I'm on Z63-67 which is f1.6 on my XHA1 with the Brevis.

I heard that you tend to zoom in more with the Extreme. How much more? And what is the F-stop of your XHA1 after that?

What is the Zoom range of the HVX with the Extreme and the Brevis. Maybe the problems is the Fstop from the HVX after needing to zoom in more and having to stop down while doing so.
