Brevis Style

We went around shooting with the brevis and the fx1. We had about 5 minutes to setup because the sun was going down quick. So if u see the brevis in the frame that’s my mistake. I will be posting more soon. Here are the twilight shots.
At the end I held the camera over my head. Came out interesting.

In a few hours the night shots.

Dee, definitely the "Spike Walk" was my favourite. A few of the early beta units had some light seepage from the power LED (no longer an issue), which is very evident in that clip against Aram's dark shirt. It's a two minute fix...I'll email Aram. I was wincing when I saw that!

I know Aram loves his beta unit...but we need to get you guys a rev2 :-)

mine too. Aram went from not being able to walk at all to 5 minute miles. (seen in the clip)

red dot? what red dot? :)
Tried to upload the other clips, had problems with the server.
Hopefully aram posts them.

Thanks for posting. But... to tell you the truth, the bokeh of the spike walk clip kind of bothers me. The traffic lights in the background doesn't look so good. Does anybody else agree?

Hey Deedive, what lens were you using? Were you controling the light on camera or with filters directly over the 35mm lens? It looks cool.

Dee, I've emailed Aram the fix. It'll take you guys about two minutes.

Amos, shooting with a lens wide open will produce mushy specular highlights. It needs to be stopped down a bit to allow the lens aperture blades to come into play. The fact that they even got footage at dusk like this is pretty cool.

Why does it come up upside down when I view it? Did you flip the image? This is only on spike..walk.

very nice

very nice

Just watched the first clip Deedive - looks awesome.

I've got my order in and can't wait for delivery so I can start shooting on my FX1!
I've already got a job lined up for the Brevis so I've gotta get learning how to use all this new gear.

Can you let us know what lens you used and how you monitored your picture i.e. have you managed to flip the LCD image (I'm about to try it out with a magnet)

What settings in camera?? Cinetone??
Any CC in post??

downloading the others now!

cheers

We used a 50mm nikon 1.4 and no color correction. I really like the shots of me walking, they are really crisp if you ask me and we were just walking and talking. We used the LCD magnet flip jammy with the magnet jammed on the hinge using a rare earth magnet (one of them really strong ones so you only have to use a tiny one).
The lens ap. was wide open so you wouldn't have gotten the hexagon light shapes in the backgrounds.

flip???

flip???

That's great.

The walking shots are my favourite as well. The look is very filmic - no doubt the time of day helped with this - great light.
My favourite shots are when your face is in focus with cabs moving in a soft background.

Any chance you could provide more info and some pics on the magnet trick??

I ripped a magnet out of a door latch and tried sliding that around my LCd but it had no effect.

Any chnace you could show us where the magnet needs to be placed?
and
I just googled 'rare earth magnet' as I had no idea of what one is - how big of a magnet do you need???
Just found a place here in Australia that sells them on line starting from as small as 3mm.

Thanks in advance for the advice!!
Can't what to shoot my own footage and post it.

cheers

The magnets you can get here.
www.teacherssource.com They are called Neodymium micro magnets. we bought the assorted 4,5 and 6mm tube. Way more than you would need but we bought them for something else. Actually we bought them for the show in my sig. They are really strong and can draw blood if you get your finger pinched in between them.
On the flip screen hinge is where you put it. Just slide it up and down and when you find the sweet spot. Its easier than the DVX because on the DVX you have to put it on the LCD and you can't really twist it too much. On the F1 you can twist the LCD anyway you want and it doesn't effect the magnet placement.
When my friend comes back from his diving expedition nextr week we can post a pic where exactly to put it.

i see the Brevis has some beautiful looking footage.

whats up withthe nasty .. either thats vignetting or barrel distorion on th left side of the frame?

No its not distortion, he didn't zoom in enough and its the edges of the ground glass. If you look and the bottom middle you can see the lip also.

thanks

thanks

Hi Aram,

thanks for the tips - will get onto it

can't wait to get my adapter and start shooting!!

cheers

The cool thing is that you can just throw it on and go shoot to practice. No heavy a$$ rails that need to be set up unless you really want them. Screw and shoot should be the tag line. ;)
And since you are constantly holding the lense to focus anyways you are actually taking the weight off the front.

wow, im in the middle of no-where. Desert island with so many cactus u cant walk through. There are wild donkey and goat running around. Underwater there are 5 foot fish casing our lights. intil now i could only find 28 8 here. so by the time i typed it would log me off. well anyway

Glad you guys like the clips. and if there is any info aram didn't cover (if Any) i will be back in 2 days.

also i have 3-4 more clips to post (twilight and night)
