Brevis Purchase Experience

I am considering getting the Brevis adapter for my HVX. I have inquired on the Cinevate site before my purchase just to make sure I am getting the correct items. I e-mailed them last week... nothing so far. Does anyone have experience with how long it may take for them to respond? Also, If I placed my order today how long am I looking at before I may receive it. Should I move over to the M2 if customer service is better?

Also, I believe I am getting all the right accesssories ( 1 x Rails System,
1 x 82-72 step down ring, 1 x Brevis HD Imaging Bundle- Canon eos mount) but, any confirmation from someone with experience with these products on the best Brevis Package for the HVX would be helpful as well. I will be using Canon Eos Lenses.

Sorry if the post here seems odd, but as of yet I havn't heard back from them.

Thanks

Russ

It does take alittle bit to hear back from Dennis..they are still a startup, small company.

however I recommend Brevis with the new CF1L cinefuse. The results I'm getting are amazing. It may take 2 - 3 weeks for your unit, but it's worth the wait.

I recently purchased a Brevis HD bundle. It took about a week and a half before it was shipped. They're really busy over there and I think Dennis is the only one responding to emails so just resend your email.

As for your list, that's all you'll need but a follow focus would be nice too.

What exactly is the CF1L cinefuse?

Never mind, got it here:

CINEFUSE 3L is the newest diffuser option for the Brevis35 for cameras with filter threads over 58mm. It offers approximately 2.5 times the diffusion of the standard imaging element, CINEFUSE 1. It is the most film accurate diffuser available. It does lose more light than the stock diffuser, and should be used in the f1 to f2.8 range, making it ideal for fast lenses. The diffuser represents a mix of some very recent technologies to offer superb light efficiency and sharp, "filmic" images. Note: CINEFUSE 3L is only available to existing Brevis35 owners.

Dennis is really great when it comes to answer all your worries ...Sometime he takes a little longer to get back to you , but he gets back to you. You can PM him here or get him at his forum at : http://www.cinevate.com/phpBB2/index.php

I'll go and get a nikon lens mount too if were you . That way you can always have more brushes to paint your film with... ( Lenses are like brushes to an artist, the camera is just the canvas).

I think they are even on turn around . this was taken of his forum:

We are caught up with adapter orders so lead time on confirmed transactions should now average 3-4 days from time of order to adapter in your hands.

for $15 more you can get the FEDEX express service.

For your longer (heavier) lenses you'll definately want the 'brevis-to-rails mount' so you're not putting unnecessary pressure on the hvx/brevis. There's a height adjustable one too.

My brevis wasn't shipped with a lense cover for the (expensive) achromat either, so I'd recommend finding one off eBay.

i havent studied much of the m2 adapters but i plan on getting on once i get more experienced with the camera in general.

what is the purpose of the follow focus?

how much should you expect to spend for everything you need for the brevis to work in conjunction with the HVX including nikon lenses? about $1,500?

hell, filmboy - a single lens can be $1500 or much more. youre looking at just under $1500 for the full brevis setup alone. lenses are a whole other world. prices range from a couple hundred to several thousand dollars.

Thanks for all your responses.
Guess I'll hang in there with Brevis. After all the studying on this and other forums I do seem to like their product best. I may take that suggestion on getting the Nikon mount too. I have a Set of Canon lenses that I am dealing with but it wouldn't hurt to have the options down the road.
I look forward to hearing from someone over there soon.

It allows you or an assistant to control focus from a knob on the side of the camera without having to touch the lense and possibly bump the camera.

Dennis seems like a good guy but takes a really really long time to return any emails. Plus he doesn't post a number you can call. Kind of frustrating. If you need that kind of customer service, you might feel a little lost. It's kind of bittersweet because his product is really great! Check out the forums, first, and see for yourself.

Hey Jay, congrats on the purchase of the Brevis. You will be very happy.
Yeah, sometimes it takes dennis a little while to get back to you but try again. He has over looked an email or PM but when I throw another out there he gets back with a big sorry. I think its been like that software commercial for him. The one where the people put up a site and sit there waiting for sales to happen on the launch of the site and you see the sales counter thing start to go crazy and then some voice over comes in and says something like, big business needs big partners or something. Anyway, he had to quit his job to run the Brevis full time. I think its time to start hiring help :)

Thanks guys for your support :-) Russ, email is a bit of a wash right now, but our forum and messaging system is kept up to date.

We're getting to the point where most orders are in their owner's hands within 72 hours so our back end is working really well. The front end (same day email and dedicated phone system etc.) needs work still, but we'll have that under control very soon. If you're stuck just pm over at the cinevate forum and we'll either call you or send you a number to call us.

I just realized there was a dedicated 35mm adapter forum now...cool Timur :-)

Cheers,

I got my unit quickly, too. I ordered it on Wednesday and had the following Thursday (a week later). I got the rig up and running fairly quickly and it looks HOT! I really wouldn't mess around with other adapters. I, for one, love that it's light and modular. Plus, it seems Dennis is always trying to upgrade/improve it and he's mindful of the current users in the new versions he releases. All reasons I bought his and passed on the M2. It's tough to get him if you need him asap but that's been the only negative. I have an older DoP of mine coming over tonight to check out the rig and help me shoot some footage. I'll try to post soon.

Seems like everyone has a Brevis now. I'm gaffing a feature and they are using a Brevis and another guy there has one so the first day on set we sat and talked Brevis. They also had nothing bad to say and couldn't wait for the new GG upgrades.
