Brevis or Letus for HPX170/EOS?

I already have a HPX and decent canon EOS lenses. I want a mobile set up (it will be used for a mix of doc and creative work). I'm not concerned about getting a flip unit at this point. I rather have a more compact and mobile set up. I'm looking to order something by monday. I'm learning towards the brevis but i have seen a lot of decent work coming from the hpx/lex set up. I actually like the cinemek the best, but i'm not feeling the 4 week lead time.

Any last minute feedback? Thanks.

Andrew

brevis and letus is a toss-up. never shot w/ brevis only w/ letus, but Cinevate's R&D was made through testing by StillMotion group and their image is quite amazing.

phil bloom, a 35mm adapter critic, made a small comment about the setup, something dealing w/ their achromat lens. when you zoom in past the "sweet spot", the image gets soft but Letus do not have that problem. other than that small detail, brevis is a great adapter.

it wouldnt be fair to say straight up which is better bc I dont have experience w/ brevis but those were the knowledge i've gained.

I own both an HPX170 and Brevis and they both work very well together.

Don't know what's that sweet spot thingy problem ; images are tack-sharp with either adapter+Nikon lenses or the stock lens. Great DoF, well worth it. I never tried the Letus but my guess would be that very similar footage would be achieved. I was asking myself the same questions a while ago (Letus vs Brevis) and I went with Cinevate because I love easily upgradeable gear and their modular approach. That and the fact that that I won't have to pay as much shipping if something breaks if I gotta send the adapter back since Cinevate's based in Toronto!

With EF lenses in particular, it might be worthwhile to look into the M2 Encore. They're introducing a Live Lens hot mount in the next few months, the first out of the manufacturers to do so. The mount should allow control of lens aperture directly on the M2 so you don't have to remove it to stop down.

yeah that's a biggie, if you're all about compact, then it would make no sense lugging around a dslr body so you can change aperture.

But if you need it right away, you can't beat cinevates quick shipping.. like to your door 2 days from order.

Also, the rumored grainless ground grass upgrade they;re coming out with around NAB time.. should be cool, especially if you going the vibrating route.

I always have a 5d body on my anyway so (havent done it yet) changing fstops isnt a big deal. I have just never liked the footage i have seen from the redrock.

I'm still between the brevis and letus, i'm starting to lean towards the letus because i'm not considering getting a flip unit. the letus looks more compact then the brevis when set up in the flip style...
