brevis / HVX / Canon FD iris question...

Hi
My HVX / canon FD 28 & 50 work great. however, when i turn the iris ring from open to f22, i dont see the image in my finder changing.
I know on a still camera, clicking the shutter closes the iris. On the brevis, how is the stopping down done? or should i be wide open all the time?

I found this in the Cinevate Site. Don't know if it helps you.

there are number of variations on FD lenses out there, and they all have a lever, or a slide switch to do this on the lens.

I just did all my FD lenses (only had one that was manual apeture out of about 6).

On the second pic in this link you'll see the person jammed some cardboard to stop the element coming back. I used regular drinking straws cut to size and folded over. What's you figure out how to do the first lense it's smooth sailing.
