BREVIS (how much will i expect to pay?)

I have a made a decision to purchase the Brevis adaptor.

I want to know how much i can expect to pay for a basic package. I am talking about the adaptor with the lense. As well as some sort of attachment monitor to judge focus. I want to get as little equipment as i need to get the job done.

The basic setup is $1048 US which gets you the HD bundle, CF1/L, a lens mount, Pelican case, and charger/ac adapter. If you're a mimimalist, a 50mm f1.4 lens will offer nice shallow DOF, and cost from $50 to $150 on ebay.

Have a look at the Ikan 8.4" HD monitor at ~ $900.

Lead time from an order placed to Fedex knocking on your door is 2-3 days. We can do 1 day in a pinch.

Cheers,
Dennis Wood

It depends on your camera too. You might need a spacer for cameras like Sony Z1 , Canon XHA1 , and some HVX and DVX and also a set down ring if you are using a HVX. Also if you are getting a monitor. you need to mount it upside down when you need to spend on the arm or mount to get that done too.

Also get a battery pod . Why battery Pod?, because it not just gives you extra hours it helps you kick start the charging when your internal battery is fully drain( it is a small flaw in the Brevis that you can't fully drain the internal batteries, because the smart charger that comes with won't charge the Brevis when the internal batteries are fully drain off. So you either leave some power left and then charge the Brevis or just use the battery pod for 5mins and then later the smart charger) . I think Dennis should make this a compulsory item with the Brevis. and not as an accessory. Because When you accidentally drain your internal batteries during a shoot, You are going to realise that you have to buy the battery pod to kick start the charging. Yes it cost only $14 to buy but the shipping is not going to be cheap. $34 to the U.S and $45 to E.U So it adds up to a little more.

Just make sure that you get everything right at one go from Cinevate , because the shipping costs are pretty high if you you need to order something later.

CF1L are diffuser used for larger cameras more then 62mm and are more stitable for zoom lenses. For prime lens it is still better to use CF1.

Ebay is not ideal. Ones man good condition is another nightmare. If you can physically see the lens the better it is. Try old camera stores or flea market.

Can the CF1L be used with an HV20, with an eye towards future use with an HVX or A1? Or is a different element required?

you have to use a CF1 for HV20 and a step up ring of 43mm to 72mm. Yes at this time you need the HD bundle achromat with HV20. But the Flip unit will be out soon. (Ask Dennis when? ) but you don't need the achromat lens and spacer when using with the flip uint. So you can spend on a basic unit now and buy the flip unit later or buy the HD bundle now and the flip unit later and sell the Achromat lens away later. or wait for the flip unit to come out and buy a flip unit bundle ( if Dennis decideds to package them together) later.

Anyway the CF1 can also be use with a HVX or XHA1 just not with zoom lenses. You have to use prime lenses on them with the CF1. But when you want to use zoom lenses then you have to use the CF1L

how much can we expect this flip unit to cost? i was going to buy the brevis adapter soon but i can wait if the new flip unit is coming out before the end of the year.

oh so is this just an extra piece of equipment that can be added onto the brevis? i was under the impression it was built into the adapter or something.

Correct. It would be a lot simpler to just integrate the flip, but many of our users have external HD monitors for settting focus...and they're happy right now with that solution. Truth be told, we'll be able to offer a variety of options along those lines in very short order.

That's how I feel. Flip means nothing to me, with an LCD and AspectHD which flips on capture.
