Brevis charger plus alert

Hi,

This is my first post in the forum. I need some technical assistance with the Brevis35 Adaptor that I just bought.

A few days after I received it, Cinevate (the manufacturer) sent me this email:

Greetings,

We've recently become aware of a potential issue with charge jacks used on Brevis units sold over the last 3 months. The issue occurs when the Brevis charge plug is forced into its jack on the Brevis unit, causing a dead short in the plug, and damaging the unit. If the charge jack does not easily insert into the Brevis MP.1 unit, do not attempt to force the jack into the unit. Forcing the charge jack into the unit will cause the internal ground pin to be bent down and forced into contact with the positive (center pin) terminal of the charge jack, permanently damaging the unit. You can call us directly as the fix is simple, or follow these instructions:

1. Remove the carbon chassis tube to expose the unit's internals.
2. Gently unplug the battery pack from the circuit board taking care not to pull on the power wires. This plug can be removed by grasping it with your fingers and gently rocking it while pulling upwards. Support the circuit board while you're doing this as it will want to bend upwards.
3. Noting the illustrations, (don't try this with power connected to the charger, or the Brevis unit!!) you can insert the charge jack into the plug, and pry the ground terminal back slightly. This will prevent it from projecting too far into the plug housing, which can cause the issue if the charge jack is being inserted incorrectly.

Please note that all new units are being checked here carefully for the issue, so the problem will not be seen in any new units. If you have any questions at all about this, or are not 100% clear on the fix, please do not attempt a fix, but rather call us for clarification.

Cheers,

Dennis Wood

I'm kinda new to all this and I do not really understand what to do...
Do I have to open the main unit?
I read in some posts here that trying to open the main unit can sometimes cause damage. Could anyone help?

Here are the pics that were attached to the email:

Thanks!

Your best bet if there is any doubt is to give us a call during business hours. We're set up for SKYPE which among other things is a free way to video conference. About 30 seconds of video from us (you don't need a camera at your end) will be a very efficient way for us to help. Skype is a free download at www.skype.com

In about one week we'll have not just 1, but three workstations set up for instant video help (using HD capable web cams) if required. It's free and as we all know, a few moving pictures are worth 1000 emails :-)

Cheers,
Dennis Wood
