Brevis and stepping down the lense

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 35mm adapter soon. I like the form factor and ease of use of the Brevis, but I have heard that you can't step down your lenses very much before you start seeing artifacts from the ground glass. Can someone confirm that this is indeed the case?

The reason I ask, is that I would like to be able to have depth-of-field control, all the way from very deep, to very narrow. Is this easier to accomplish with a spinning ground glass adapter like the M2 or Sg Pro?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Espen

You may want to post that question to our users over in the cinevate forum, but most are finding that anything up to f8 (light permitting) is safe with CF1L. We've tested up to f16, but seldom recommend shooting like that as most lenses don't perform well stopped down that much. You'd need a lot of light to be able to dial in f16.

The CF3L imaging element option is another animal and requires fast lenses usually operated at f2.8 or better. The benefit though is extremely shallow apparent DOF.

Thank you Dennis, for your reply.

I am probably worrying for nothing about this, because I see a lot of great footage from the Brevis. But I think some people are taking the narrow depth-of-field effect a bit to far, and I would like some control over it by being able to stop down the lens a bit. I'll have to think about a this a little before deciding between the Brevis and the SGpro.
