Brevis and DVX

Ive been looking at picking up a brevis as I like its lightweight and low-light abilities. Im not really interested in the flip module as it seems easy to flip in post (tried it with some existing footage and rendered in no time) and i would need a monitor to properly pull focus anyways correct?

If you think i can get away with using the DVXs screen to focus and forego the monitor than i would lean towards the flip module or if i have to use a monitor anyways i would prefer to skip the flip and keep the rig more compact.

Which monitors do people suggest? I was looking at the inkan v-7000 as it seems affordable though not overly high res. Although i also need a good alternative power source for it, so all of these questions are on my mind. Anyone have any clarification?

I havent seen any posts recently regarding people using the DVX and Brevis, seems to be only HVXs and HV20s.

Let me know if anyone has used this in combination and how it worked out.

thanks.

thanks for the link ill take a look. Unfortunately i have a 100b so i dont think the magnet trick works for me... ive read bad experiences with the other flip hack. Any other advice or is the flip module my best choice?

I just got the flip and it's very nice. That being said, you can actually get used to having the frame upside down if you want a really lightweight run-and-gun rig. Like William said, focusing is pretty easy with peaking on since we're only shooting SD.

ok so i guess this is more of a personal thing. I'll have to get an adaptor first i suppose. Also curious as to whether or not you people are using follow focuses or doing it by hand? I'll probably eventually get one but won't start with one.

And finally has anyone tried using an SGpro and focusing using only the DVX's screen?

thanks

Brevis vs. SGpro

ive been reading as much as I can on the topics. The brevis is slightly more expensive unless i get a used one. But the brevis is quicker/easier to set up, lighter and less light-loss but the SGpro has (arguably) better bokeh and you can stop down lenses without grain. Oh the choices...

any advice?

Moo, the Brevis is modular which means that you can purchase it non-flipped, and add the flip later at a discount. The rails systems are designed to work with pretty much any configuration, so no worries there either. We have no less than six interchangeable imaging elements to cover pretty much every camera, and bokeh look our users are looking for...with more additions coming very shortly.

Cheers,
Dennis.

plus theres that added benefit that i would be supporting a somewhat local guy haha, i'm originally from Winnipeg. Been out in Japan for the past 3 years but i'll be back in Canada this summer, though i'm not sure i can wait that long to pick up an adaptor. I'll have to make a point of hitting up thunder bay once i'm back in town.

Ok i've looked at both SGpro and Brevis sites a lot and i can get the SGpro plus flip module for the same price as the Brevis non-flipped.

Thats about the most i can budget at the moment so what do you think? I haven't seen much info in regards to the SG's flip and how it all works but i like that it doesn't really get any bigger since the flip replaces the tube that would be there anyway.

any opinions?

Moo, do stop in and visit if you're in town. The door's always open here, and due to our various caffeine addictions, there's always something brewing.

We had our first "Cinevate" production screened tonight here, with pretty much the entire cast/crew in attendance. Being part of the local film community is something we work pretty hard at :-)

I would love to but unfortunately i currently live in Japan and won't be back in Canada/Winnipeg until August. No matter what I end up picking up though the Brevis looks awesome and i'd love to stop in and see what else you guys have in the works once i'm able to do that :)

No worries. Btw, regarding pricing, our flip package is pretty much identical in price to the SG with the bundled Letus flip. Factor in the fact that we send it in a Pelican case, with an AC adapter/charger, and it's less expensive. Don't forget a pound is worth $2 CAD.

If I could, I'd own both, but the SGpro really does well in most conditions, but in the future, I will probably invest in a brevis also.
