Brevis 35/XH-A1 with flip module :-)

I think the Quicktime is like 480p. Haven't checked the WMV file.

In the Quicktime, there's smear on the right and left sides of the frame.. This is what I've been seeing in nearly all Brevis footage (aside from the crane shot I commented on in another thread).

Dennis, is this a product of the lens or is this adapter?

Also, was the A1's focus set properly? The overall image (in the quicktime) seems a bit soft. It's probably compression or something.

I'm interested in the Brevis Flip for the M2, just want to see what to expect with the extra piece added. Thanks for sharing.

Cool place, Dennis. The water color is amazing!

I'm definitely seeing some smear on the edges of the footage and, in one shot, it seems like the whole frame is offset. That's not a big deal because these kinds of shifts happen but the softness or smear on the edge is problematic.

Yeah, I understand that kind of pressure, LOL :)

Aside from the edge issue, however, the footage looks very sharp.

So with the current test optics, the HV20 is performing better? I'm assuming that with the release optics, things will be better? One thing I noticed in shooting with the Brevis last week (version 1, I think...) was tha that the gg was just barely big enough for the A1 to zoom in on correctly without losing any macro function (not that the A1 or Sony cams are great with macros anyway) - but I am curious as to that still being an issue with current Brevis versions or are we again, still dealing with to many factors in test imagery?

Beautiful place - wow - the colors and those falls...

The footage looked so good on our 42" panel here that I couldn't resist posting it. We have two test setups...one using singlet optics that work correctly but have a ton of CA, and the other uses optics that are clean for CA, but not a correct design for sperical aberration. The good news is the correct achromat glass is being made as we speak...designed for both CA and SA compensation.

The flip unit actually helps with zoom-in. Both the large and small cams will get about 40% more zoom-in room using the flip module/optics. For cameras like the HVX (with great macro abilities), 16mm motion film PL lenses will likely become usable with no crop factor. The HV20 performs better with our test setup because it has a much smaller lens diameter and runs into less spherical issues typical of using the small achromats. This is why we only manufacture 72mm achromats for the Brevis units....too many issues with 58mm glass.

The edges are likely a bit soft as you're looking through the 72mm XH-A1 lens, funneled through a much smaller optic being used for now for CA testing. Rather than holding the footage, I decided to post as is to keep folks like Pappa happy. I'll have more from the HV20 which is a lot better due to it's much smaller lens diameter.

Kholi, the mov file is downrezzed and compressed for folks with download issues ... the wmv is the larger one as you'll note in the download sizes.

Ah gotcha. I thought the Quicktime was 720p because it said 720p, that's all. I did download the WMV, the compression is great.

How soon you think it'll be before we see the image with the right optics? And, how close is this to being the final product from the Brevis and Brevis Flip combination?

And thanks for posting, as always.

Very vibrant colors. The majestic landscapes you have, your lucky. I would have a field day there... Thanks for showing footage.

P, it was all of your requests that had me posting the footage, warts and all :-) Kholi, we're looking at late November for the correct optics here and in quantity.

We've put together a pre-flip package that will get you our complete setup with a Brevis HD adapter, full 45cm heavy wall carbon rails system, Brevis-to-rails mount, charger/AC adapter, Pelican case and a flip module reservation for just over $1200 :-) The units still (and always will) support interchangeable imaging elements and full support for 35mm motion film lenses (PL and OCT19 mounts). Our flip module for existing Brevis owners, and flip package purchasers will be under $400.

At the end of the day, that would get you full carbon rails support and everything you need to use a Brevis unit flipped, or non-flipped for just over $1600.

Thanks for doing so Dennis! You have a great porduct, and I have seen what Brevis could do pre flip. So I can only imagine how your shipping version will perform! The A1/Brevis Combo makes a very sweet tool! Im sure the HV20 works well too, or any camera really!

The good news is that with a new location, 2 new faces, a studio and a dedicated video/SKYPE support area, we'll be in good shape for what's to come :-)
