Brevis 35 Production Tests: XL1s, XL2, DVX, HVX, VX2100

Yes it is...but I was for sure using the built in ND filter. It's going to be really hard to give this cam back :-(

you know.... if you shoot 720p with a 35mm adapter (any 35mm adapter) and down scale it to sd, you get some great results. Ithough the footage was WAY to soft, but watch it at half res, (closer to sd). it looks pin sharp... thats impressive.

The bitrate is the biggest issue there...3.5 Mbit MPEG4 is pretty much what I post my SD stuff at. It's not adequate for HD IMO. I posted it up anyway at full frame size.

It looked great on the MAC as raw HD footage...it's just that I had to get it on DVD and back to my PC to post it. His Mac is not network connected. My impressions were that it was not soft at all as native DVCPRO50 footage.

Once I get set up properly, I'll be posting a lot more from the HVX.

ahh compression!!!!

ok new rule.... when posting HD or 35mm footage, 2 second long, DV or HDV or DVCpro go clips only please. Full resolution. so we can see what it is really capapble of...

een if its only 1 second of footage. this was we can CC and do real Screen grabs ourslelvs...

along with the compressed longer version.

I understand its not possible for you Gus, but im just saying.

Not to worry...we'll figure out a mobile capture device (laptop with FCP 5) and do some real shots. I could just as well dump some of the raw DVCPRO50. I'm guessing a lot of folks won't be able to view it..but we'll try that next. I saw enough from the adapter on the Mac to guarantee we will get great footage.

So here's a question: What is the best format to take from the Mac, (must fit on a DVD as it is not network connected) and then edit on a PC with PP1.5?

I must say, as many problems as I had with the Mac hanging, it was quite a surprise to see all the formats that FCP 5 can handle. Very nice. I can see why all you Mac guys are always so happy with FCP.

A small aside. The Brevis was rock solid on the HVX's 82mm threads. You can really get away without rails with this cam, or any cam with metal threads.

probably quicktime... that whole raylight thing... try it idunno. i know thats how you get vegas to see DVCpro.

If you have access to Avid HD 5.2.2 or above it works flawless, and if you are more comfortable with AP 1.5 just export a quick time reference file (check the Avid Codec). I myself do not care for Avid but got it for the cost of raylight(academic version), so I get to learn a new editor and still use premo.

That is music to my ears :D When do you think the Brevis FD will be able to ship after you receive the mounts?

Immediately...it's just a quesion of how long the shipping to me will take. Untill they're in my hands, I'm promising nothing...made that mistake before :-)

Happy Easter beta boys...the Brevis fleet sets sail tomorrow morning. It took an astounding amount of time to get this far....

Was the Dvx footage ever posted? I checked through the pages, I just saw Xl1, Hvx footages. I also didn't see a price, just some whining about it.
