Breakfast on Pluto

OK. I saw parts of this at the Deep Ellum Film Festival (parts as I was volunteering yesterday). When I first sat in there was an overhead shot following the young version of the main character, as he was going down some streets and through some buildings. There were some turns of the overhead crane, which on first sight I was thinking god that is so amateur and jerky. It also appeared to me to have a minimal lighting crew throughout. Also throughout there were these captions that kept popping up basically as a title for each section of the movie. Matter of fact, I thought it was just some low-end production that got lucky and somehow convinced Liam Neeson to get on board. At the end when they announced the director (Neil Jordan) who also directed The Crying Game (a movie I will never see) I came to the belief that the director just had a fetish for seeing guys in chicks clothing. Checking IMDB I notice he also directed Interview With A Vampire, which I happen to like so… Anyways just a few of my thoughts on it.

Neil Jordan is a hell of a storyteller. If you aren't familiar with him and his body of work, you really should have a look at a few of his films. Though he utilizes Stephen Rea brilliantly in basically all of his productions, Neeson was apparently more than eager to work with him again on Pluto (he starred in Michael Collins also.)
