I put in 21 hours of set time filming this weekend. Was it worth it? Well, my lower back is killing me, my knees still hurt, my body is in pain all around, I burned through two hands full of cash, cashed in on a list of favors owed and now I owe a ton of favors out and all I have to say is, I WANT MORE!
My weekend was the most exciting and fulfilling filming weekend that I've had yet! There were 51 total people involved, 17 of my 18 actors showed up, I had 17 crew members and the remaining were extras that were willing to help out when ever we asked (which wasn't often). Everyone had a great time and new relationships were formed as existing relationships were bonded further. The footage is simply amazing. I just have to say it again, the footage is amazing, the best that I've directed yet.
I had the honor of having a few fellow DVXUser members on set. Vitaly did a great job as usual as DP and sound, he's my go to guy because he really gets the job done and cares about the final result. Chris Messineo did damn near everything plus his consulting was simply priceless. Joe Nash as the behind the scenes director who shot almost a box worth of tape and was down to do anything to help. Chris Brown as a location scout, he came through for me when I expressed my concern on a location that I didn't feel was right and he found me a golden nugget. Chris Hurn will be scoring the film. He's a really, really talented song writer and I can't wait to see what kind of magic he composes!
It went all too well.
The lead was a real boxer turned trainer who began acting yrs ago but left it behind him. Basically, this was his first performance in over a decade and he did a terrific job, especially during a boxing scene lol, it was an awesome shot, perfect. It was almost like this part was written for him so everything felt very natural.
Gerry Cooney showed up right on schedule and was on top of his game. Yes I said it, he was on point and he knew his lines. There's one scene with him that really stood out for me which made me appreciate his performance, I can't wait to show you guys.
Two days down and two days left. Dates aren't solidified yet as the location agreements are still being negotiated but I anticipate the dates to be within a four week period.
I'll keep you guys posted.
