Bouncing Mask

I went to a friends to shoot some quick green screen clips. Unfortunately, I forgot the screen. So I went ahead and shot them anyway. They are only 3 sec. each, with the camera mounted on a rail that moved from right to left. As I'm back at my computer, I'm trying to mask out the background. The clips all have to be stabilized on the y axis because of bumps. So now, I've went in to apply a mask, and shaped it at both the start and the end. However, on playback, the clip itself is smooth (no bumps), but the mask is jumping up and down. Why is this happening? Do I have to stabilize the mask too, and if so, how?

You can either 1) pre-comp the clip and then work the mask on that.

OR... there's a way to take the data of the stabilize and invert it and apply to the mask, but I forget how.

Good luck,

Mike

First off, how come the mask bounces when I add it after the clip is stabilized? Also, what do you mean by pre-comp.

The stabilizer works, by moving the clip up/down to compensate for the bumps. But as the mask is attached to the clip, it will move too. What you need to do is, as CaptainMench said. Do you stabilization and the put that into a composition for itself. Then add that comp to another one, and draw your mask on the comp instead of the actual clip.

Thanks for the help. I researched and did the precomp and saved it with the stabilization. It works fine now when I apply the masks. Thanks for your help on this.
