Title says it all. As some of you know i had doubt what to get - XL2 or DVX 100AE. At the end it came down to DVX . It should arrive on 22nd, cant wait.

Price was 4900 $, maybe lil too much huh? Anyway i was looking at the add on for camera, and i got stuck on these things:

AG-LW7208G - wide conversion lens
AG-LA7200G - 16-9 conversion lens
BT-LS1400 - LCD screen

For you that bought it or had chance to work with them, are they any good? Worth spending money on them? Coz they are pretty expensive. Or is there some sub that works better?

Thanks :engel017:

wow, $4900.00...that's not in dollars is it? What does it work out to be in American money?

As for the add-ons...I would suggested playing with the camera for a bit before you plunk down more money to see what you just can't live without. Assuming that you already have a tripod and mic situation worked out, I would look hard at the 16:9 conversion lens and the Wide Angle lens to determine when you might need them and how often you might need them. The 16:9 lens is pretty pricey, but you can usually find them used...not for TOO much of a bargain but cheaper nonetheless.

As for the LCD...I would definitely skip that purchase, unless you are thinking of attaching that to a crane or jib setup. If you are running and gunning, the DVX has a big and beautiful LCD already attached to the camera.

That's my take...

Yes 4900 US dollars, lil to much, right?

Thanks for the advice! So LCD is out, but wide lens ill have to get a.s.a.p.
Do you have any footage or screenshoot with and without the wide lens on?

Thats the price in Panasonic store, and its the only one that has DVX. Same price for XL2... Next time ill do my shopping in US :)

4995$ is even more expensive than here in Norway, with a lot of extra equipment and stuff. And remember, in Norway taxes are 25%. It's not healthy for your wallet, I can tell you that.

Take it back.

(yay, 100 posts, finally I can vote in the sci-fest, woho)

well what do you want to do with them? are you asking us either or?

the 16X9 adaptor is for changing the aspect ratio and the only way to get 500 line resolution in the DVX -- it is veeeerrryyyy limiting however, no auto focus, no cocusing by eye, you have to use a cheat sheet and maybe a ruler tp get focus and no run and gun

I shot my short for the zombie contest exclusively with the anamorphic. Computer resolution won't give you an accurate idea but alt least you can see something shot on it.

now I use mine only for locked down establishing shots so I get maximum resolution for the detalied wide shot of the set
---
the wide conversion - I wouldb't get it - look at century optics instead - but this gives you a wider different angle of view - also useful for master shots, but tricks the eye into thinking ts seeing more detail rather than actually adding detail. Does NOT change aspect ratio, can use auto focus etc.

But the DVX has a pretty wide angle lens on it so you can see a lot -- not extreme but unless you want to do the detail in the set trick, get wierd character shots, it does fine on its own. YOu may need a wide angle on occasion to see everything when you have to be close to your subject like in a care or a small room.

I don't know aout the lcd but a good field monitor is a good investment

--- personally, if you are planning on doing any narrative filmmic work, I woudl get one of the new cheaper 35mm adaptors, this gives you a DRASTICALLY different tool and is the most cinematic choice out of the above and I have a 35mm adpator, a century wide angle, and the panasonic 16X9

well after long time waiting... DVX arrived :)
DVX100BE :) cant tell how happy i am... thanks to everybody that helped me out...
