Bought a monitor on ebay -- how to hook it up?

Hey all, this is my first post. A friend told me this is a great place for filmmaking discussions.

I just bought one of these monitors...hopefully it's legit because its an amazing deal.

Anyway I want to use it for accurate NTSC color correction at home, but am not sure how I'll hook it up to my iMac. At my school they have monitors in their editing lab, but they are all connected via a DV deck connected by firewire. All I have is the iMac's standard video out thing. I'm assuming I'll need some kind of adapter to get FCP to talk to the monitor?

Any advice is appreciated.

Check out AJA and Blackmagic design. You're not likely to get away for less than at least a few hundred bucks...

Noah...he has an iMac. No capture cards work with that.

For DV you have three options: DV camera, DV Deck, Canopus converter. The Canopus might be the cheapest option, unless you already own the camera.

You could get the mac mini-dvi (or mini display port, whichever model yours is) to composite video adapter. You'll also need an rca to bnc adaptor, you can get that at Radio Shack. When in extended desktop set up the feed going to the monitor to ntsc color space, and tell final cut to send digital cinema desktop to the monitor. It won't be as good as through firewire, but it should get you an image. I think it should work. I've never set-up final cut that way, but I have used the video out for final playback and thought it looked alright.

IT will get him an image, but it won't be a full quality, color accurate image. Which is what he wants, I assume, since he bought that external monitor.
