CHROSZIEL 41153PK Matte Box

Fire Store FS-4

Vinten Pro-6 tripod

SENNHEISER ME66 shotgun mic (with wind muff, camera mounted)

Zoom/record remote from bogen

Pelican hard case

rain cover from Porta-Brace

Sony portable monitor

Re: BORED AT WORK

Please forgive my ignorance, but I have a question about one of the items you listed. I see Matte Boxes referenced a lot and it seems to be an item everyone wants.

Can someone please tell me what the Matte Box is and what it is for?

Thanks,
Larry

Re: BORED AT WORK

It keeps light from hitting the lens, do you don't get lens flares. It will also hold filters, which help you to control your image in camera.

I just recently picked up the Pro 6. THAT is a great tripod, my friend.

Re: BORED AT WORK

Thanks...that makes sense. So I assume the high cost is due to the part that holds filters, not the "sun shade" part, right?

Re: BORED AT WORK

The cost is also high because there isn't a huge demand for them. PDX_DVX: You have the ME66 listed as your ideal mic. Not to take anything away, but there are alot better mics out there. :) IMO

Re: BORED AT WORK

Hmmm, the truth is, is that I know very little about mics. LOL, in fact, I kinda just listed that one because it was the first short shotgun that I saw on EVS. What camera-mountable shotgun do you recommend?

Re: BORED AT WORK

Slim, I'm curious to hear what kind of mic you would recommend. I always thought the ME66 sounded best but to be honest I've only used 4 different brands. I wondered if there was anything nicer out there aside from studio mics.

Re: BORED AT WORK

Check out the "Audio" forum, there's a buttload of mic info there. Learn from Oleg and others. ;)

Re: BORED AT WORK

wowo

i dont know half of what that stuff is on the list - but sounds advanced!

my current DVX package is the following:
- DVX 100a camera
- onboard mic
- tripod (I got it for free)

...thats it!! wahahah

For folks looking to upgrade from an ME66, I usually recommend the AT4073a, the MKH416, or the MKH60. At more than two and a half times the price, the MKH416 is beyond the reach of most DVXusers, but an incredible mic. The AT4073a is still within reach, at around $520.

Re: BORED AT WORK

Though I must admit, the ME66/K6 has been the most popular, best selling shotgun I have ever seen. I own one myself that I use for exteriors, and I love the sound that it produces. I have an At4073a for interviews, and an ME64 for SFX and Foley ;D. We have sold the ME66 10:1 against all other shotgun mics. That is why we featured it on the DVX on our site. People love it, and it is sold by the hundreds, and we have had maybe 2 or 3 returns ever. :D
