Boondocks Saints 2

Man, I miss those days too. Hard Boiled and The Killer just can't be topped IMHO.

I can't find that documentary anywhere, I really want to see it. I heard Duffy is real piece of work but for him to get black balled then actually make another picture is impressive.

The budget was 8 million on this and 6 gun toting Connelly Claus looks to be bad ass again. Il Duce was my man in the first one.

Two of the best action flicks ever IMO.

I think that for indy guys like most of us on here, if we want to make an action film, that these types of stylish Woo-style action flicks would be the way to go. Now with cams like the Red One and eventually Scarlet, doing the truly great slo-mo (120 fps) type of shots is possible.

I totally agree. I would get crazy with 120fps. I already have an arsenal of weapons:violent5:

I wouldn't say that Duffy has restarted his career with this. We'll have to wait and see. I seriously doubt that people are lining up to hire him considering his behavior the first time around. There were lots of things I liked about the original, and a few I didn't. Connolly was great, and the casting was good all around. But although it has a cult following, it didn't break any financial records, and it was hardly a groundbreaking film stylistically.

I'd be surprised if this tops the original, but I'll give it a go when I get a chance.

Overnight is a great cautionary tale. You can get it at Amazon

The thing I find most amazing about this is the Duffy actually got another chance to make another movie. Of course, it's not like he actually made a different movie, is it?

I've shat turds that look better than this trailer. WTF happened to Sean Flannery? He looks older than Yoda, and Yoda said it himself, "When 900 years old you are, look as good you will not."

And what the hell is with this chick cop?? New character, same old devices. I can hear Duffy now: "Oh, Willem won't come back? Lets just change his character to a chick with all of the same mannerisms!! I'm a Jew-hating genius!" :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

After seeing clips from Overnight, this movie could be the next Gone with the Wind and it would still be marred by my disdain for Troy Duffy.:violin:

Wait so what did Troy Duffy do?

All I remember about the first one is that my friend forced me to watch it, I didn't like it, and there were no redeeming qualities et. Though I can't remember it all that well.

I heard it was good, but no theater in Ontario is playing it yet...as far as I can see. Google reveals no further information either. What's going on?

My friend saw it with some of his friends. They all loved it. And I know it must have sucked. Idk why my friend liked it. He is wierd.

I just saw this yesterday and I was definitely dissapointed. I always liked the first even though I can't really say why. There are many flaws in the first film but they were overpowered I guess by Dafoe's performance as Smecker with his interaction with the local cops. There was great action and just enough humor. Nothing ground breaking but some nice visuals and showing Smecker discovering the details of the murders while mimicking shooting along side the brothers was great. There was also some corny dialogue and very steriotypical over the top mob bosses. The writing on the screen showing who the boss was and their status was also ridiculous. Billy Connely was awesome towards the end and overall the many flaws can be forgiven for just a fun little movie from a first time director.
Then I saw Overnight. This shows Troy Duffy's rise to fame and quick spiral to obscurity while trying to make this film and get a record deal for his band. It is really interesting and worth watching over the sequal any day. It is available for Instant View on Netflix from what I remember.
This sequal takes everything from the first, flaws and all and cranks them up to an obsurd level. The acting and dialogue is some of the worst I have seen in a long time. There are some actors I really like who put in very over the top corny performances and it can obviously be attributed to Troy Duffy's direction. Judd Nelson as an italian mob boss just doesn't work. Julie Benz, who I think is amazing in Dexter, has an over the top accent and is basically the Dafoe character from the original without the originality or wit. Again, I don't think it is her because she can obviously act. It is the dialogue she has to work with and the lack of direction. I will sum this up now cause it is dragging. The humor is forced and rarely funny, the plot has more holes than there are gun shots in the movie, acting is bad, nothing new just recycled scenes from the first, there is a horrible dream sequance with Roco from the original on a useless rant about the world and how you should rebel and whatever else he rambled about. Just overall it didn't work for me. Connely was great again, Julie Benz was fine as ever to look at, some decent action, a decent ending and hardcore fans of the original will probably like it but it will definitely not translate to a new audience.

Man I think there were no flaws in the first one. I'm surprised it has a med. imdb rating.

Anyways my friends told me the 2nd one sucked so I didn't go opening day. I actually waited months before I started to hear some positive reviews from people. I cracked about six hours ago and downloaded it.

I was actually really surprised at how much I liked it. I've heard Troy Duffy is a douche and I was sure I would hate this movie for all of the obvious reasons but I actually REALLY liked it. Corny yes. Cheesy Yes. but half-way funny and shocking and cool and shiz without spoilers I can't really say more.

7/10

Boondock Saints 1 is awesome.
I haven't seen Overnight, but whatever he did, it can't have been worse than molesting children, and even child molestering directors don't get the **** people love to shove at Duffy.

As far as flaws in the first film goes, it doesn't have a single flaw you can't find in every single one of Guy Ritchie's movies, but the best sequences in Boondock Saints 1 is way better than anything Ritchie has ever done.

So yeah I don't get the hate.
