Boompole for AT 897

I have an AT 897 and I need to buy a boompole. I am not sure which brand to get and if I should go with cabled or uncabled?

Thanks for the help.

A quick use of the search function using the term "boompoles" revealed several threads on this subject, such as this one:

Although that thread is from 2005, I think most (if not all) of it still applies.

Aluminum is less costly, graphite is more expensive (but lighter, which is important).

Cabled vs. uncabled is a personal preference.

I presently have a Gitzo aluminum uncabled pole, but my next pole will probably be a K-Tek cabled graphite pole, with a right angled exit for the cable on the bottom.

9 feet is OK if all you ever boom is a static interview 2 shot. 12 feet or longer is usually better for other stuff.

In general, a cabled pole is a better call as it is assumed that the manufacturer has handled the problem of mechanical handling noise from the cable moving against the pole.

Make sure you go with a side connector instead of a bottom connector if you go with an internally cabled pole.

Is carbon much lighter than aluminum? The aluminum Gitzo G-7680 is $80 less expensive than the Gitzo G-7680C carbon, same lengths.

Are there any other differences?

The carbon fiber version is just under 2lbs, the aluminum is a little over 3lbs. Other than that they are the same pole. If you're trying to figure out if the extra money is worth it, try holding an $80 textbook over your head for a few hours. ;-)
