booming up - gear?

I have a client who requires a bunch of shots where we boom up/down with camera (no more then 2 feet) - the kind of thing that can be easily accomplished with Fisher dolly. Anyone knows of a more economical solution?

A jib describes and arc (so is closer to the subject at the middle of the boom)

may or may not be an issue for you

you could consider a slider mounted vertically (which could be a challenge)

You would need to mount the cam on a L bracket (another challenge)

Maybe one of the sliders that have a countermass for the camera

You basically want a very smooth pneumatic or hydraulic pedestal, yes? Not sure of where to find one good enough for cine use is. Off the top of my head the only ones i can think of are on Fisher and Panther dolly units. hmmmm... perhaps you and I can develop one and make lots of $$$$$$/ :)

Camera pedestals like they use on television shows aren't really made for in-camera moves, but rather off camera positioning, so I don't know if that is a good place to start looking... but then again, you never know.

If you only need 2ft and want quick and dirty, use a slider (igus or sim) mounted on a fluid head. Put another fluid head on the slider carriage and tilt the slider up and down like a mini jib, adjusting the cam as you move. This taks some practice, but it does work.

Also, some of the sliders have a belt drive, so you can mount the slider vertically and use the belt drive to move the carriage up and down.
