i have the audio techina at835b...im having trouble picking up audio...i can only get the bars on my camera to move if i yelll very very loud...i tried different audio settings on my XL2 but nothing seems to work...any ideas...please HELP!! Thanks Alot

Is the XLR Cable connected to the mic ?:)

Check the internal batt. or switch 48+ ON.

check the manu for MIC IN, Not line in.

Check for the following:
1. Mic attenuation on the camera (could be hiding in a menu somewhere).
2. A pad switch on the mic (I haven't used the at835b, so it might not have one).
3. A bad cable (swap in another one).
4. A phantom power supply problem (pop a fresh battery into the mic if you're able, or test the mic with a mixer or external phantom power supply)
5. A busted mic (try out another mic that you know is working).
6. A non-functional mic-preamp (test your mic with the other XL2 mic input, or failing that try it out with a mixer).

Once you've narrowed down the source of the problem, it'll be easier to find a solution.

My money is on this one.
The last time I worked with an XL2, neither myself nor the cameraman could find a Mic/Line switch or menu option. If there is the option to go line-level into an XL2 I'd really like to know where they hid it.

the xl2 is mic level only on xlrs ins
That's what I thought, thanks.:(

I almost forgot: make sure that the you're switched to the XLR inputs rather than the on-camera mic. It was probably the first thing you checked, but sometimes the obvious things sneak up on ya.

Never worked with XL2 but on XL1s it is a menu setting. Not sure which menu it is under but it is there. It must be in the manual. The Canon XL series of cameras are great in many ways but the control layout have always been poorly designed, IMHO.

Good luck
