Boom Pole Vs Painter Pole

The Gitzo g7680c is just over 12.5'... but it's not in the same league as the K-Tek, VDB, or Ambient poles.

I use it... I like it... but if I could afford it I'd have this length in a K-Tek.

Personally I consider a $250 pole to be dirt cheap at this length... which is the main reason that I mentioned it in the first place considering the title... sorry that I kind of glossed over the "under $60" part.

For anybody that bought a DVX... I honestly hope that $250 doesn't sound like a lot for a 12.5' pole... I can fully recommend that Gitzo also... it really feels solid and well made... and looks dead sexy. As long as you back the last two sections in a few inches (and it's STILL 12.5' if you do that) then it's a great pole for the price.

Let me add that if you can afford an internal coiled cable on your pole (like K-Tek offers) then I would absolutely do it... maybe the problem is worse in the aluminum poles, but I have a 9' K-Tek graphite with internal CC and I love it... I mean I LOVE it... way easier to run 'n gun then the uncabled pole... I don't think I've got a cable slap even once. In my own experience I'd have some other handling noise before I'd get a cable slap... for me to move the pole fast enough to induce a slap means that I'll get a rub, thunk, or something else at the same time. When I read about people getting slap with internal CC I'm always wondering how that happens.

ill second that matt. just got the same pole as you from Ktek, and it KICKS. We're using it as our short pole on the drama im on now, and its a wonderful tool, fast becoming the weapon of choice.

I also dont understand people that induce cable slap with int cabled poles. I just dont get it.

Guilty!!

I am able to work around it but for jobs that require quick and sudden boom swings at full extension the cable noise is much easier to control externally then internally.

Clearly I could use a few lessons I guess :embarasse

I like hearing stories when someone attaches a mic to a stick wrapped around
duct tape because they don't have a shockmount. Got to love Guerilla filmmaking.

hey wabbit - i wont lie, it HAS happened to me a couple times, but its really not a daily occurance, or even weekly, so I cant understand people that continually produce slap with an int cabled boom. I seriously doubt you need lessons... :)
