boom + c stand = stylophone

very very strange one a couple of days ago. i was shooting a drama and resting between takes. i rested my carbon fibre boom on a metal C stand which was holding a Kinoflo, and still had my headphones on.

when the boom (not the cable) made contact with the stand, it produced a weird buzzing sound in the 400Hz region. my first though was that the light had somehow shorted and made the stand live, so i called the gaffer over to make sure there wasnt an accident. he checked the whole light out and it was fine.

he also observed that not a single conductive part of the kino was touching the stand, yet this kept happening (occasionally the frequency would fluctuate). we also checked that not a single cable (power, monitor or anything else) was touching the cable, and i was recording into camera which was running from batteries, as was the director's monitor.

we tried the same thing with the same light the next day, with absolutely no result.

absolutely stumped here! any ideas?

Carbon fibre booms are electically conductive. Perhaps it was acting as an antenna capacitively coupled to the mic electronics or cable and the current into the kino was inducing a current to flow in the boom itself.
