What are the legalities of filming books that will be in the background of my shot? Im shooting in an office and need to know what my parameters are; how much I can show, titles, authors etc., legally.

Also,

One of my acotrs had a Darth Maul sticker on her notebook. I didnt notice it and it made it into my shot for a decent length of time. I cant re-shoot so will most likely have to CGI it out, correct?

The books are no legal problem unless they are the subject of your shot and you are using copyrighted information from them, like a quote or a passage. The sticker unless specifically TM is not a problem either. And none of it is a problem unless you are making money for the film.

So a filmmaker can show a book case full of Stephen Kings Novels and as long as you are not referencing them in an way, no one can come after you? That's good news.

What would happen if the film took off and became popular?
